If you're concerned about the animals in Haiti as well as the people, you'll be glad to know that the World Society for the Protection of Animals [WSPA] and the International Fund for Animal Welfare [IFAW] have joined together to work on getting ground assistance to the animals. They've developed the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti [ARCH] to assist in their response efforts. From WSPA's website,
"Our teams will be working out of a mobile clinic which has been donated to us by the Antigua and Barbuda Humane Society. WSPA and IFAW have pledged funds to fully outfit this mobile clinic, and it will be shipped from Antigua to our member society, Sociedad Dominicana Para la Protección de Animales [SODOPRECA] in the Dominican Republic for them to drive across the border into Haiti."
It's wonderful to know that there are people helping the animals during this crisis as well. Human rescue and assistance efforts are always the priority, but once people are safe and healthy, I'm sure they'll be looking for their companion animals to provide some extra comfort. There are also wild animals, strays, farm animals and sheltered animals which will need attention.
I'll be donating 20% of all sales made from KSK Jewelry Designs throughout the rest of January to help with the relief effort in Haiti. I would really like to support the work of both Doctors Without Borders and the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti, so I'm giving buyers the choice of where their money goes. If any sales are made from my shop during this time, I'll post donation totals on February 1st.
